PKPerformance began in 2001 during a season of change. After careers in sales and social work came to an end, my husband and I were beginning an entirely new chapter of our lives. We were newly married, starting a family, and looking for a way for me to build a career while also being home to raise our children. What started as an idea around our kitchen table became PKPerformance.
In those early years, much of our world revolved around our Nissan 240SX, the growing import car scene, and the energy surrounding the Fast and Furious era. It seemed like every week we were creating a new look for the car, packing up, and heading to another show in another city. Our Nissan became a rolling showcase for what PKPerformance could do. We traveled with it to shows throughout the region and beyond — from Michigan to Quebec and all the way to Florida — meeting people, making connections, experimenting with new designs, and constantly finding new ways to make something stand out.
Vehicle graphics quickly led to custom logos, lettering and design work. Then our customers started asking: "Can you make this?" And very often, our answer was: "Let's figure it out." That mindset has become one of the foundations of PKPerformance. As technology changed, so did we. Our capabilities expanded from vehicle graphics into business signage, banners, school graphics and custom lettering. We were incredibly proud to see PKPerformance graphics appearing on local police and fire vehicles, businesses throughout the community, schools, fields and events.
A few years later, another wave of technology opened even more doors. Custom apparel became part of PKPerformance. Then spiritwear. Team uniforms. Promotional products. Custom gifts. Event merchandise. And countless ideas that began with a customer saying, "I was wondering if you could…" More than 25 years later, that is still one of our favorite questions.
One of the things we love most about PKPerformance is how many different moments we have been invited to be a part of.
Those moments mean something to us. Because behind every shirt, sign, glass, banner, logo or graphic is a person, a family, a team, a business or a celebration. And we never forget that.
PKPerformance has always been a family business. Our children grew up alongside it. They saw orders being designed, shirts being pressed, vehicles being lettered and projects being finished late into the night. Our customers became friends, and many of the relationships that started during those early years continue today. While the equipment, technology and products have changed dramatically since 2001, the heart of PKPerformance has not.
